Allergy Testing and Treatment Options

IN-OFFICE TESTING

Due to the broad spectrum of causes behind an allergic reaction, our medical staff will start your treatment by conducting a thorough evaluation of your current health and medical history. We offer skin and blood allergy testing to help pinpoint the specific allergen(s) that elicit a reaction. This helps Dr. Jackson and our team of nurses properly diagnose your allergy. If your allergy testing is negative, there are other causes for your symptoms and we will work with you to uncover the source of the problem.

PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT

Once Dr. Jackson and our team understand the source of your allergy, we can begin the treatment phase. Allergy treatment is comprised of three major components: prevention, medication, and immunotherapy. By addressing these three areas, we can help a patient effectively manage their uncomfortable symptoms and even increase a patient's resistance to the allergen itself.

  • Prevention

Prevention is centered around the patient avoiding the trigger or allergen responsible for causing the symptoms in the first place. This can be a particular food, medication, or pet. While some allergens are easier to avoid than others, allergens such as pollen, dust, and mold can be difficult to reduce exposure.

  • Medication

Adding medication to a patients treatment regimen can help to further control symptoms and increase the overall quality of life. This can be especially effective for sufferers of "harder to reduce" allergens, such as environmental and seasonal allergens. Our medical team will take the time to explain the available options to you, ensuring any medications used are safe and effective at treating your specific allergy.

  • Immunotherapy

Whether your allergen is difficult to avoid or medications have proven to be ineffective, immunotherapy, or allergy shots, can provide an alternative treatment method. These shots are administered to help stimiulate your immune system to fight off the specific allergen. By slowly increasing the dosage, patients can achieve a maintenenace level, allowing them to continue at the recommended frequency to keep their allergen in check. While this varies from patient to patient, some may experience the ability to continue to maintain their immunity without the ongoing need to continue with the shots. Dr. Jackson works closely with patients to establish a personalized immunotherapy treatment plan.
